At Glasscraft – Bullseye’s got a Contest!

Are you attending Glasscraft and Bead Expo in Las Vegas next month…April 9-11, for the expo but check for the schedule of classes and if there’s any room left in those classes. Bullseye glass will have a booth there and they’re having a drawing. Sounds like fun! There are 5 $100 gift cards available in the drawing. So if you’re heading to Vegas for some glass fun go over to the Bullseye booth and sign up. And while you’re there look for me. I have a booth too! I’ll be there selling handmade glass beads. And of course reporting on the event for you guys…and buying glass…and tools…and checking out stuff for my studio…so much fun!!

Take a Glass Cruise…with the Corning Museum

The Corning Museum has paired up with Celebrity Cruises to take you out on a glass cruise if you’re game. It’s the Hot Glass Show and if you like going on cruises and the idea of watching glass blowing this might just be the vacation for you. And if you’re a glass blower they’re looking for more glass blowers to work in the show. On the Corning page about the cruise you can watch a video telling you all about the cruise. This is Corning’s way of educating the public about glass and giving employment opportunities to glass blowers. Check out the video…

Call For Glass Artists – Fallbrook Art Center

I received an email today for a call out to glass artists for an upcoming show at The Fallbrook Art Center. I thought I should pass the information on to all of you. If you’re in California and want to be a part of this show check out the show requirements here. There’s plenty of time to get your application and images of your work to them since the deadline is April 1st. There are two divisions you can apply for. There’s Jewelry, Functional Work and Production work that will be in the Gallery Store and in the main Gallery will be unique work. Check out their timeline and see if this is a show for you. Day One at CHA – Cool Glass and Stuff for Glass

Today I spent half a day at CHA. Did my demo of macramé to promote my book, Mod Knots and then wandered around about half the show. I had a pressing engagement and had to run early but I’m returning tomorrow to finish and search for more interesting items. there’s so uch cool stuff at CHA. Every craft and art supply company is there. But my focus was glass, of course. First cool thing I came across is a bead buddy and the queen of dichroic glass beads, Paula Radke. She had a booth with beads and other interesting goodies. She’s got a resin thing going on and she’s using some of her laser etched dichroic glass in resin bracelets. The benefits of glass with the durability of resin. Very interesting. She’s off to Tucson next…

The next cool booth I came across sells adhesives for the glass and craft industries. They are Streuter and they have adhesive for stained glass, mosaic, and fused glass. Tomorrow I’m hoping the piece one of the ladies was working on will be fused. She was using their glue with glass frit. I’ll give you an update tomorrow.

I also wandered over to the Amate Studios booth where they sell findings that are used quite a bit for resin jewelry but they’ve started making their little frames deeper and they would be perfect for fused glass cabs and even some beads. Fun stuff. I want some of these for some of my upcoming classes. More CHA news tomorrow!

More GAS Conference 2010 Events

So you’re going to Louisville for the GAS Conference next June, 2010 and you want to know what’s up before the conference. The party before the party. There’s always pre-conference activities and I’m here to entice you to check out what’s planned.

If you like horses and horse racing there are a couple of events perfect for you. There’s the Backstretch Breakfast and Louisville Stoneware Tour or the Horses and Bourbon Tour. The first allows you to witness training of the horses at Churchill Downs, home of the Kentucky Derby, while enjoying breakfast in the Trackside Kitchen. After that you check out two floors of race related exhibits at the Kentucky Derby Museum and see Churchill Downs Frontside and the Winner’s Circle. Once you’e done with the horse stuff you go over to Louisville Stoneware, to see how this stone ware is created. But maybe you prefer Bourbon…then go on the Horses and Bourbon Tour. First you go to the Kentucky Horse Park to visit with more than 30 different breeds of horse. YOu see the blacksmith, International Museum of the Horse and enjoy lunch at Holly Hill Inn. Finally the bourbon, at one of Kentucky’s oldest distilleries, Woodford Reserve. But where’s the glass you say. Handmade Glass Bead Trunk Show and The Whole Bead Show

‘Tis the season for bead shows and craft fairs and trunk shows and backyard crafty gatherings. Everyone needs gifts. Crafty types need to sell people those gifts. So here’s a trunk show being held in the Ventura County area of Southern California. Newberry Park to be exact. Creative Castle to be even more precise. There will be six handmade glass bead makers, and for reasons of complete disclosure, I am one of them. If you live near Thousand Oaks, stop by and buy beads by Amy Caswell, Bernadette Fuentes, Jackie Mixon, Cathy McNassor, Debbie Sanders and myself. The show is from 10-5 this Saturday, November 14th.

Now if you happen to be further south, say the San Diego area, you can visit The Whole Bead Show. It’s being held November 13-15. Check out their site for more details. At that show there’s a fine variety of beads, vintage, handmade, and many many more. The Whole Bead Show is a traveling bead show that makes it’s way across the country through the course of the year, even Hawaii. If it comes to your area you should check it out. They usually offer jewelry classes too. Check them out. As I said, ’tis the season. Shop Handmade!!

Glasscapes by Mingo and Asho

Glasscapes by Mingo and Asho is one of the many exhibitors at Babe – Bay Area Bead Extravaganza. They make blown beads among other glass goodies but this is what they’re most known for. And on a side note, I love these guys. Super people as well as talented glass artists! And that’s what Babe is filled with. Glass isn’t the only type of bead you can find here but some of the best bead makers come out to this show. It’s held in Oakland, November 14-15, 2009 and if you’re in the Bay Area part of California I think you should go. Think of the holidays! You can do all your Christmas/Hannukah/Kwanza shopping in one place. Also you can take classes. How fun is that?

I’ve mentioned SOFA, the International Expositions of Sculptural Objects and Functional Art Show because of the appearances of Bullseye and the Corning Museum of Glass’ Hot Glass RoadShow. This post is about GAS, the Glass Art Society being at the show. And why wouldn’t they? Art glass is functional. What they are offering is discounts for the show if you renew your membership. If you’re in the Chicago area this weekend check it out. I sure wish I could. There will be so much interesting art. And functional of course.

Hot Glass Show at SOFA Chicago

I mentioned the SOFA show in an earlier post about Bullseye Glass and their exhibit. For those who missed that post, SOFA is the Sculptural Objects and Functional Art show that’s held around the country a couple of times a year. The next show is in Chicago and will be held next weekend, November 6-8, 2009. The Corning Museum of Glass will have it’s traveling Hot Glass Road Show there demonstrating glass blowing. How cool is that? Check out their page on the Museum’s web site to learn more about them. And check out the videos of what they do. Here’s a link to their video from the SOFA show in 2003. Very impressive. They have a full glass studio for blowing in a trailer they can just drive up to the venue. WOW!!

Glass Craft and Bead Expo – Las Vegas

The dates for the 2009 Expo will be Wednesday April 1st through April 5th at the South Point Hotel & Casino, Las Vegas, NV. Classes will begin on Wednesday, April 1st and the show floor will open on Friday, April 3rd. Look for a larger show floor and more classes with new instructors!

If you love glass art, or being around really cool artists, or just want a reason to go to Las Vegas, then don’t miss Glass Craft & Bead Expo 2009!
