Jeffrey-Sarmiento-EncyclopaediaOne of my favorite artists in glass is Tim Tate (can’t wait to meet him!). He’s a multi-media artist whose specialty is glass casting. He also is a partner at the Washington Glass school near Washington, DC. In an interview with the American Craft Council he discusses the direction that glass is headed in the art world, which is away from the Studio Glass Movement, started by Harvey Littleton, which tended to focus on glass blowing and technique rather than narrative driven art.

Glass Secessionism was formed by Tate and William Warmus and has gotten a pretty serious and sometimes heated discussion of the future of glass. Please read the article and join the discussion. It can be fascinating…
