More stuff from Las Vegas…got a new copy of The Flow magazine and wanted to share some of the contents. The Flow is part of a family of glass publications that provide tons of stories and tutorials about glass and the glass industry. There’s also Glass Patterns Quarterly and Profitable Glass. The Flow’s focus is lampwork. Beads and other goodies made with torches. So I also received their regular newsletter which brought some interesting articles to my attention. Now I’ll bring them to your attention. I think the article on loading a kiln is a great place to start, The Kiln Corner. You can find it on line as well as in the magazine itself. The article covers a number of different questions and materials about loading your kiln. Good stuff to know.

Create Stunning Cards with Solar Paste
Solar Paste created by Simon Hurly for Ranger Ink is a paste that looks very unassuming at first. It’s an almost white, light color with a creamy consistency that’s subtle on white cardstock but it really comes alive when applied to dark cardstocks. It comes in 6 different colors that each have a cool metallic shift.
Kristina decided to try it out and created three cards with different techniques with some amazing results. For one card she used the Solar Paste with a stencil, for another she created her own simple background with different colors of the paste and lastly she designed some flowers and leaves, all on dark black cardstock. She mounted the panels on white bases and added white heat embossed sentiments to complete each card idea. She’s sharing a video tutorial on making these cards with some tips for using the Solar Paste.
