Hi ,I teach glass fusing and a variety of other crafts. I USE FIBE PAPER OR I place a long copper or siver hollow tube stuffed with fiber paper to make a hole. Stuffing it prevents it from colasping I extend it past the glass. you can always file the edges flush.make sure the paper extends longer than the edge of the bead and glass.the metal tube stays in your work. it uually turns black.
I also use silver or copper loops sandwiched between layers of glass.
Make sure you leave enough of the edge of the loop extended past the edge of the glass that
you will be able place your jump ring or necklace cord or chain through it.you can polish your loop back to silver or copper.

Hi Pam.

Mandrels go into the kiln all the time...it's one of the way that beads are annealed. It needs to have bead release on it though or your glass will not release from the mandrel.

To get holes in beads when fusing I believe that fusers use fiber paper to leave the hole behind after firing. I believe that bead release on a mandrel would work its way into the piece and even onto the surface so that isn't recommended.

I'm not a fuser, I'm a lampworker, so someone correct me if I'm wrong. Floor is open.

Is there any way you can use a bead mandrel to make a slide dichroic pendant; Will it take the heat of the kiln?
